February 22 除草踏上新的工作岗位已经会半年了, space也半年都没有更新了, 原因很简单, 因为半年都没有出去旅游, 半年都没有添购任何电子产品...记得有谁跟我说过, 我的space几乎都是关于旅游和电子产品... 今天终于可以上来除一下草, m&m埃及两周游平安归来. 为什么去埃及?不是因为它是文明古国, 不是因为对于金字塔的向往, 不是因为想去看肚皮舞, 因为其实很简单, 英镑对欧元, 英镑对美金大幅贬值, 再加上不想花时间亲自去申请签证, 不得不再次把目的地订在非洲大陆, 这已经是我第三次去非洲了... 感想: 除去和埃及人讨价还价的疲惫, 开罗脏乱差的市容和路上的两场小病, 埃及之行还是很值得回忆的. 有一点和东非之行很像: 在内陆可以去神庙(在东非就是safari), 看腻了就去海边潜水,晒太阳. 上次safari到看见大象都不想在举起相机, 这次神庙看到想吐, 每天N座金字塔, 2N个神庙, N^2多柱大厅, 没有做好功课的我们狗P也看不懂... 虽然如此, 倒是拍了不少照片, 等来日有闲, 俺慢慢整理, 供大家欣赏...先写到这里... July 28 非洲之行－照片逐步更新鉴于群众强烈要求， 上传若干整理好的照片。 m&m决定使用picasa web album。
最先上传的是肯尼亚的第一次Safari， 目的地是Lake Nakuru National Park和Masai Mara National Reserve。简单介绍一下Safari和这两个公园的背景知识：
我们是在Nairobi找的safari公司。 其实在肯尼亚只有两个地方safari公司最集中， 一个是Nairobi，一个是Mombasa。 所有的safari一定是从这两个地方的一个出发， 然后再回到那里。 当然大家可以在网上就找好，然后到这里就马上出发， 但是从经济的角度考虑，到了这里再找会比较好，而且也可以customise自己的safari trip。 从奢华程度上讲， safari可以分lodge safari和camping safari。 从交通工具分， 又有air safari， balloon safari，和minibus/Jeep safari。 顾名思义， 前两种当然是我们这种穷人玩不起的。Lodge Safari在200-300美金per person per day。 Air safari和balloon safari俺们就根本没问。 毫无疑问， 我们选择的就是最便宜的camping safari， 找了几家，最后选定saferide， 95 美金per person per day（包吃包住）。 第二天一早我们就出发了， 同行还有一个来着夏威夷的James，和两个非洲志愿者Ellen和Laila。第一站就是位于东非大裂谷的Lake Nakuru国家公园。 从海拔3000多米的Nairobi一路下行， 天气逐渐变好， 3天来终于感受到了炙热的赤道附近的阳光。东非大裂谷其实非常的宽， 大概有100多公里， 所以行驶在里面，一点也不觉得有裂谷的感觉。大概开了约莫4个小时。我们到了Nakuru小镇， 在budget hotel check in和午饭之后， 我们驱车前往国家公园。 Lake Nakuru国家公园以成千上万的火烈鸟出名。它是一个咸水湖， 也正是这个原因， 火烈鸟们才会在这里栖息（火烈鸟靠只能在咸水湖中生长的一种藻类为生）。 很可惜， 我们运气不好， 不要说成千上万， 成十上百也没有看到。 倒是鹈鹕和秃鹳到处都是。 虽然这个公园面积相对较小， 开车大概4个小时就能兜一遍， 但是动物的集中程度确实相当惊人的。 随处可见非洲水牛， 斑马， 狒狒， 莸猪等等。 最值得一提的是， 这里的犀牛相当多（相对而言），在后来的所有safari中， 我们都没有看到过犀牛。 我们的司机名叫Sam， 听他介绍才知道犀牛有黑，白两种。 白犀牛并非白色， 只是相对黑犀牛要白一点， 其实叫做灰犀牛更贴切。 白犀牛胆子较大， 而且性格温顺， 可以近距离看到。 而黑犀牛则相反， 胆怯，脾气暴躁， 经常躲在远处的灌木从里面， 比较难发现。 因为下雨的缘故， 在lake nakuru并没有拍到很多照片， 仅存的几张火烈鸟的也因为不知道增距镜会降低照片质量而毁于一旦。 不过值得庆幸的是， 我们看到一头白犀牛在泡澡， 而且距离非常非常近， 近到如果我把手伸出窗外， 我就可以拍到它的犀牛角！ 第二天我们一早就出发前往Masai Mara国家公园。 这一路叫一个颠， 而且灰尘满天飞， Kenya政府绝对有必要好好修正修正这条公路。 这辈子就没吃过这么多灰。 anyway， 经过将近7个小时， 我们到了camping site。 虽然叫camping site， 但是这里的帐篷都是permanet的， 其实就是简陋的房间， 只不过墙壁都是帐篷罢了， 有热水， 也有电。 我觉得绝对物有所值。 我们放下行李，就跟着司机开始第一个game drive。 可能因为第一个去的是动物高度集中的Lake Nakuru， 我们对Masai Mara抱了太高的希望。 而且还满以为能看到从Serengeti迁徙而来的大群角马， 当看到寥寥无几的resident 角马， 和并不那么让人兴奋的斑马和Antelopes之后， 比较失望。。。 之后两天的game drive也没有那么尽如人意， 除了看到几只懒得要死的母狮子和一群懒得动弹的河马之外。。。However, 除了动物， 那边的景色也很不错 http://picasaweb.google.com/mo.chen02/ 
 June 23 首次Safari归来今天回到Nairobi, 本来是要乘first class train去Mombasa的, 可是竟然碰到铁轨有问题, 我们的火车被cancel了. 只能改变计划, 先去坦桑尼亚, serengeti国家公园.
前几天去了肯尼亚最著名的Masai Mara和Lake Nakuru国家公园, 运气不是很好, 在Lake nakuru的时候碰到了大雨, 很多动物都躲了起来, 而且怕照相机淋湿, 没有敢多拍. 马赛马拉国家公园现在动物不多,还没有到大迁徙的时候, 他们都缩在Tanzania的Serengeti. 虽然如此, 还是看到了野生的成群的火烈鸟, 非洲水牛, 象群, 懒散的狮子, 非洲大羚羊, 瞪羚, 白犀牛, 狒狒, 河马, 鳄鱼 等等. 时间有限, 大家看图说话把. June 19 Amazing Nairobi...After 17 days of gourmet trip in Europe (Slovakia, Poland, Czech Republic, Italy and Germany), we finally arrived in Nairobi yesterday. 13 hour flight was split up into two parts, from Munich to Doha and from Doha to Nairobi. From the point of leaving the airport, it seems that everything is negotiable here. Taxi fare to the city center was brought down by us from 1500 KSH (25 dollars) to 900 KSH (9 dollars), although it still has the possibility of bargining. For the sake of safety we chose the oakwood hotel in the middle of city center. Nairobi is not as dangerous as we had thought. Lots of people are dressed in suits and carrying a briefcase with them. Almost everybody we met are very polite except soemtimes it's too polite to feel annoyed (lots of safari touts). And almost everywhere there is a security guard, Foreign exchange office, hotel lobby, supermarktets.... Food is really cheap here, for some local restaurants, 10 euros can stuff both of us very well, including sodas. However, some international cuisines cost a lot more, e.g., Italian, Japanese, etc. After visiting some Safari companies for the whole morning we finally made our decision to go for a 3 night 4 day safari in Masai Mara and Lake Nakuru tmr (my newly-bought tele-converter can unleash its power). 虽然已经在英国近6年了, 俺却一直没有来过苏格兰. 这次趁爸妈来参加迟到一年的毕业典礼, 顺便带他们来苏格兰看看. 报了一个3天的isle of skye的高地团, 然后在爱丁堡呆三天. 周日回伦敦. 希望苏格兰不要让我失望. P.S. 从他们下飞机开始, 就马不停蹄的跟着m&m游伦敦和周边地区. 7天内每天都是内容丰富: big ben, guard change, buckingham palace, trafalgar square, china town, soho, picacilly circus, leicester square, baker street, Sherlock Holms museum, Madam Tussaud's, British Museum, Natural History Museum, V&A, Imperial COllege London, Greenwich royal observatory, Canary wharf, Tower bridge, London bridge, Tower of London, Kew Garden, 还抽空去了Windsor和cambridge. 也把几乎伦敦的中餐吃了个遍: 大江南北, 川渔人家, 老地方, 四季, 皇朝, 粗茶淡饭, 湘缘楼...刚从国内来的他们自然对这里的中餐评价不高, 却喜欢上了english breakfast... April 16 美西之行归来历时近一个月的美西之行终于告一段落， 昨天回到伦敦小窝， 虽然脏乱不堪的， 但心中隐隐有点归家的感觉。 花了近三个小时整理和打扫，才能够让俺这个如此能够容忍脏乱差的人睡下。。。 因为前几天缺觉再加上飞行劳顿和生物钟的关系， 今天一觉睡到下午5点， 起来的时候觉得喉咙隐隐作痛， 估计是呼噜打得太响太多了，哈哈。 简单介绍一下行程：

游记和照片将会持续更新。。。 P.S. 在这里要特别感谢胡子同学， 不厌其烦地帮我预订几乎所有的hotel（虽然俺也帮他积累到了几千个mile的UA的里程） 感谢Changyong同学帮我order所有照相器材和LA的hospitality tour 感谢GJ同学的Google和硅谷tour 感谢DW同学的Twin Peaks Tour和strip club experience January 19 Macbook air updates今天发现order的Macbook Air会提早一天出货， 咋速度这么慢呢？！ 难不成生产流水线还没有搭好， 或者还没有敲定最后OEM的厂商， nnd， 搞什么噱头。 这应该是目前m&m自己买过的最贵的东西， £1580 (不含VAT， 升级到Solid State Drive）， 估计下一件能够top它的就是车（虽然还不没有驾照）， 再下来就是房（虽然目前存款连伦敦任何一套房子首付的10%都不到， 虽然更prefer搬来搬去， 住遍伦敦各个角落， 住遍世界各个角落）， 应该再没有任何东西能够出房的"右"了... 还没有憧憬过2008， 现在稍微展望一下：
以上愿望以可以实现的probability从大到小排列。。。。 November 03 After shocking ... and a working strategy[ZT] - from FT.com (02 predicts sales of 200,000 iPhones) It will be sold for £269, but customers must take out contracts with 02 that start at £35 per month. It means the cheapest iPhone deal will cost £899 because the contracts last 18 months. Mr Key (chief executive of 02’s UK business) shrugged off the price differential between the iPhone in the UK and the US, where it is available for $399. The iPhone price was cut in the US by $200 less than 10 weeks after launch, but Mr Key played down the idea of swift reductions in the UK.
Here are some of my thoughts: Are you kidding me, £899 for a iPhone!!! It's ridiculous! Given the weakening dollar, you are better off flying to US and get that gadet from Apple store. To prove my point, let us do a simple calculation:
P.S. Almost forgot to consider another variable, whether everybody has the visa to enter US or not. Well, there is an alternative way avoid going to US. However, it does depend on whether you have any acquaintance on the other side of the Atlantic. If you do, ask him/her to send you the iPhone by global express mail (around $40 including insurance) available at any US post office. Usually takes less than a week and you can track the package online, very secure. Although you don't get to see the United States, your profit is obiviously the upper bound with the postage deducted. Of couse, the best best scenario is that by chance you have another acquaintance (not necessarily the one who buys the iPhone for you) coming to UK, your profit is maximised. P.P.S. For people for whom all of the above strategies fail, don't worry, like the old saying "when there is a will, there is a way". Although Apple behaves more and more like Microsoft, only allowing one network operator exclusively to sell its iPhone, although every iPhone is binded with expensive contract, according to Appleinsider news, it has trouble in England's neighbour - France. Apparenly in France, there is law protecting customers by forbidding any network operator issuing handsets only operating on one network. Therefore, in France, there will be two versions of iPhone released. One verison is of course the Apple verison operating on Orange network, the other one is the free, unlocked version which is for sale at a slightly higher price, which I am sure must be lower than £899. So, go to France after Nov (it is said to on sale in the end of Nov.), get yourself an iPhone if you are really attracted to it. If you live in UK and not able to visit France, I am sorry that I can't help you and you should help yourself.  P.P.P.S. In this strategy, we argue that you do not trust ebay, or other third party distributor because of uninsured quality and you only have faith in yourself and your acquaintance. P.P.P.P.S. Please make sure there is already a unlocking tutorial out on the web for firmware 1.1 before buying since every iPhone on sale now is shipped with that version of firmeware. Some claimed that the current unlocking method would not recover the phone feature of iPhone. It is just a matter of time before it is completed cracked. Any comment is welcomed. October 29 为什么总是我？？？在催了apple和tnt快递N次之后，今天终于收到我的imac了。 第一印象， 对于apple的设计真实没有话讲， 一个字， 漂亮。 24寸屏幕无论从面积和对比度上来讲都比原来的20寸宽屏要来得爽得多， 还有蓝牙键盘和鼠标， 太cool了。 接下来， 需要抱怨一下， 为什么我每次买电脑设备老是要出这样那样的叉子， 而且都不是我的错。 仔细察看了系统配制， 竟然不是我原来order的那个specs, 少了1GB RAM， 而且键盘上面有乱七八糟的德文符号， 看了看order number， 根本不应该deliver给我，是某个在Muchen的家伙。 马上打电话给apple，nnd， 等了老子听了30分钟的夹杂者噪音的音乐， 还不断鼓励我不要挂， “Thanks for waiting. The next available will be with you shortly. Your call is very important to us.....”. 终于有人接了电话， 然后把我踢到IT support那里， 还好有个很nice的小姐帮我向他们上级反映了情况， 说明天给我答复， 估计是再send一条RAM和一个ＵK的keyboard给我。 这样也好， 因为现在着台机器的硬盘有500GB, 比我order的320GB还大， 也算是他们工作失误对我的补偿吧。 p.s. 电脑设备出叉大事记：
略去无数相同经历 October 26 永久脑损伤 今早打电话给orange， 一位声音甜美cusotmer service representative(可能是小姐，也可能是阿姨，分不太清楚)接了俺的电话， 我让她帮我transfer我的official number， 她看到我的information上title是Dr.之后， 肃然起敬， 俺忙不迭解释，俺不是medical doctor，只是PhD， 还告诉她PhD = permanent head damage， 也不知道是因为这个玩笑逗乐了她， 还是她就是敬仰Dr，又或者俺是orange的老用户， 她免费给我每个月多加了100分钟， 真不错。。。 希望下个月回国时候这个"永久脑损伤"的title可以让我免费升舱 October 24 I, Phone感谢胡子同学百忙之中抽空把iPhone远隔重洋地给俺寄过来了（赶在了11.9英国发布之前）， 同时也感谢该同学在俺的iphone上留下的那无数的finger prints, 哈哈 试用了一下， 彻底解锁（俺用的是orange的sim卡），非常顺手， 看照片， 上网， 看电影， 听mp3， googlemap，连中文输入都搞定了， 一切的一切和steve jobs说的一样 ， amazing。。。 希望这里礼拜能收到我的iMac， 这下就彻底的 I, APPLE 了 October 19 街霸iV - 经典再现Capcom has confirmed the rumors about Street Fighter
IV at an event in London. No additional info about the game has been
available, but now we can be sure, Street Fighter is coming back. A teaser trailer shows Ken and Ryu fighting and that is enough for most of us to get excited. Let us just hope that Capcom won't turn this into something regretful. For starters, we are talking about switching Street Fighter to 3D, that already ruined some of the good games. Or at least if Capcom does indeed go 3D, it better be good. 没想到这款经典游戏又要更新了。 最早接触街机就是从街霸开始的， 那个时候没有电脑，没有Xbox， 没有PS， 家里连任天堂的8位机都没有。 记得每周放学都会有那么几天和同学去街机房混， 虽然那时候只要3角一个牌子，可零花钱也非常有限， 基本上一周玩那么一次就不错了。 其实对于我来说，因为自己水平不怎么样， 看高手一个牌子通关更来得享受， 最爱的游戏就有八人街霸， 激光战机， 雷龙， 雷电等等。 八人街霸里面美国大兵的"么列斯股", 光刀， 空背， 疯子Ken的“哦有感”， “阿稻秆”等绝招仍热历历在目， 虽然转眼已经快1/5个世纪了。。。 October 17 iMac 24' orderedKnowing it only costs £5.95 to upgrade to OS X Leopard from Tiger, finally I placed the order on iMac 24' using company's account, saving me £184 on VAT. September 28 do not reply to this email突然发现Imperial发给我的关于alumni信息的newsletter的发件人地址竟然是 do_not_reply_to_this_email@imperial.ac.uk！ 有意思 September 24 Happy moon-cake fesitval祝愿各位同学， 亲朋好友， 长辈晚辈， 中秋节快乐， 月圆人更圆! 现在算算差不多已经五年没有在家里过中秋节了， 虽然我们家没有那么讲究， 除了家里无缘无故会多处几盒月饼（多半是没有时间送人或者是最后一分钟别人送来的）， 和平时没有什么两样， 从来也没有边吃月饼边赏月的习惯。 不过今天还是煽情一把， 希望爸爸妈妈身体健康， 儿子很快就回去看你们， 哈哈。 值得高兴的是， 不出意外， 十月份应该可以搞定iMac 24'和iPhone， 彻底跟PC说bye bye。 September 15 《Deja Vu》 + 《Lake House》 + 《Legend of 1900》 = 《不能说的秘密》刚刚看完周杰伦自导自演的新片《不能说的秘密》， 不错， 值得推荐。 周董初涉导演一职， 能拍出这样的一部片子还是挺让人刮目相看的， 比纯粹耍酷的《头文字D》好多了。 其实影片的情节并不新颖， 看过《lake house》的人都会觉得《不能说的秘密》有抄袭之嫌， 但影片结尾部分却能够另辟蹊径（用到了《Deja Vu》里面的概念）同样达到大团圆收场的目的， 称之为“借鉴”也许更加贴切。 其中的斗琴部分更是借鉴了《Legend of 1900》的精华， 电脑特技方面也是做得非常到位。。。 刚才说了影片结尾另辟蹊径，这是影片独特的地方也是唯一值得商榷的地方。 它的reasoning有问题，假设结尾部分是既成事实， 所有的历史将被重新改写， 在1979年世界上会突然冒出来一个周杰伦出来， 而且很有可能1979年时候黄秋生还没有周杰伦这个儿子，那么也就不会发生影片开头的故事， 作为学science的 m&m难以理解。 一家之言， 可能是我修炼不够， 请有识之士砸砖。 另外， 再推荐一部影片， 《surf‘s up》， 很搞笑， 3D特效做得太棒了， 那个海水render得跟真的一样。 P.S. 差点忘了， 里面的琴仪姑娘（曾恺琼）长得不错， 哈哈。 |
